How to leverage your online audience with live streaming

November 24, 2018 by Kevin Yamada Leave a Comment

Live streaming events is a must today. If you are not leveraging your online audience  you are missing out. There are so many ways a live stream can benefit your conference. Here are my top 3:

1. SELL VIRTUAL TICKETS

Live streaming is the easiest way to generate more revenue from your events. You’re already doing all of the work producing an amazing event, why not expand your reach (and your sales)? There is a valid fear that if you live stream your event that less people will attend. According to Vimeo, 64% of live video viewers are more likely to buy a ticket to a concert or event after watching a live video of that event or a similar one. If you have stats, this article if for you. I believe this is because you do not get the full experience of the networking (and swag). However, many people would love to attend but they are restricted by traveling costs. With a virtual ticket they can experience what your conference is all about and get all of the great keynote and and panels. Thus, building brand trust and are more likely to save for next year! One strategy is to advertise physical tickets in your region, and advertise for the live stream outside of your target area.

2. SPONSOR AIR TIME

The other way to generate revenue from your live stream is to sell your valuable air time. There is a high chance you have sponsors and paid vendors at your conference. It is a perfect upsell for your sponsors to include some sort of advertisement in the live stream. This could range from playing a slide show of sponsors during breaks, to playing their commercial in the live stream. Another option for a premiere sponsor would be to ‘host’ the live stream. “this live stream powered by [sponsor]” in the lower corner of the screen.

3. CREATE A SPECIAL EXPERIENCE FOR YOUR VIEWERS

Don’t forget about your virtual audience during breaks, or in times of interactive activities. One great idea is to have a host dedicated to your live stream audience and interact with viewers during slow periods. No one like watching an empty stage. This is the best way to let your audience feel heard as your host can be reading the live chat. Some ideas include raffling conference swag, selling a product, interviewing keynote speakers, interviewing sponsors, highlight videos from past years or other upcoming events. The best part about this strategy, is you are creating content you can re-purpose as marketing content to promote next year’s event.
